17th February 2008

FCA came face-to-face with Woodham based arch-rivals Coyles on this sunny Sunday afternoon, determined to make amends for the 6-1 drubbing earlier in the season at Melbourne. The game started slowly and Amarillo spurned a number of chances early on, before the only goal of the game came through a delightful outside of the boot pass from Steve Lew to Sam Gilbert who volleyed the ball first time across the goalkeeper who only managed to spill into the in-form Keith Seeman who duly tucked away his second goal in as many weeks. The remainder of the game was a fierce battle with both teams desperate to seal the vital points and although Coyles hit the post in the second half, the better chances fell to FCA. Outstanding performer: youngster, John Burdett Jr. The promotion push continues...

10th February 2008

FC Amarillo dominated last year's Premier Division side Chelmer Wanderers on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Melbourne Park, running out 4-1 winners. The first goal came courtesy of a neat piece of play from Sam Gilbert and Steve Lew with Lew tucking away a reverse pass. John Lew soon thought he'd doubled the advantage when his header seemed to have crossed the line by a good yard or so, only for the referee to wave play on. The game turned worse for FCA when CW equalised just before half time after some slack defending, Eagleton unfortunately turning the ball into his own net. The second half saw the Marksmen continue their domination and a headed goal from Sam Gilbert from Steve Lew's corner gave us back the lead. Further goals from John Lew (an excellent finish) and sub Keith Seeman (a close range overhead kick) sealed the win.

3rd February 2008

Sunday saw FCA pull off a fine win in terrible conditions, seeing off league rivals Broomfield on their own patch. FCA started brightly after a jovial pre-match warm up with 6th choice goalkeeper Thomas Clarke and took the lead through a John Lew finish from a Josh Gilbert free kick. Broomfield soon hit back with a goal from key player Nick Horsnell and that goal saw the sides go in level at half time. The battle continued in the second half and solid defending from the Amarillo stand-in keeper and back four managed to keep the home team at bay. In the 63rd minute some good work by J.Lew, C.Seeman and S.Gilbert managed to carve out a tap-in for Stephen Lew's 50th competitive goal and this coupled with the resiliant defence was enough to seal the 2-1 win. Special mention for Matt Stollery who played his first game since injury at school in 2002.

27th January 2008

FC Amarillo lost 5-2 in this cup quarter final to a well-drilled Premier division outfit in Wickbeech from Basildon. The Marksmen went down 2-0 to two soft set pieces before pulling one back from midfielder John Lew. Unfortunately a third, deflected Wickbeech drive saw the Premier side go into half time 3-1 up. The second half was largely the same as the first with Amarillo finding chances hard to come by and saw the yellows yet again concede with a soft header from a corner making it 4-1. Sam Gilbert managed to tuck home a second for FCA with 15 minutes to go but a quick reply from Wickbeech settled the result. An idea of what's required to play a division up was the outcome from today's fixture...

6th January 2008

A lacklustre FCA lost the return fixture of this game 3-1 to what can only be decribed as a team of young men that would be entertained by a Chucklevision feature length film. The game was a scrappy affair and was marred by constant nattering to the referee and a general lack of sportsmanship. This coupled with a plethora of decisions going against Amarillo proved to be too much in the first game back after the xmas break.

16th December 2007

FCA took on league rivals Lokomotiv Billericay at Melbourne in a real ding-dong battle ending up 5-5 - FCA showing their fighting spirit having never been in front. Goals came in the shape of a battling first from Sam Gilbert and a deflected left foot drive from joint record appearance maker John Lew to level the scores at 2-2. A late first half penalty gave Billericay a 3-2 lead. In the second half Steve Lew managed to squeeze in a third after giving the centre back a torrid time, only for Billericay to notch back the lead 4-3 soon after. A second goal from Sam Gilbert made the scores 4-4 after some good hold up play by Tom Clarke, only for Loko to once again take the lead 5-4 from a soft free-kick. With 10 minutes left a quick 1-2 from Sam Gilbert and John Lew saw Gilbert's left foot drive flick in off the post to level once again at 5-5. A real corker for the spectators!

9th December 2007

No game.

2nd December 2007

FCA beat old rivals Ingatestone Rovers 5-1 in difficult conditions on Sunday. Steve Lew missed a penalty in the first half and shortly afterwards Ingatestone took the lead. With half an hour gone a deflected Keith Seeman shot had leveled the scores. In the second half Steve Lew made amends for his earlier penalty miss with a quick-fire double through two Sam Gilbert passes to give FCA a 3-1 lead. After a spell of danger FCA regained their composure and Cyrille 'The Salmon' Van Vliet lashed home a long range shot to confirm the victory. In the closing stages Sam Gilbert ran on to barge through the defence and strike home a last minute fifth for Amarillo.

25th November 2007

A bare Amarillo 11 took on Woodham Athletic in a rescheduled fixture @ Chelmer Park this Sunday. A magnificent team effort saw FCA pull off a 4-2 victory with Woodham only looking likely to score in the closing stages as Amarillo began to run out of steam. Goals from record scorer Steve Lew (penalty), Tom Clarke, Neil Eagleton and an own goal sealed the win.

11th November 2007

FC Amarillo are through to the quarter finals of the League Cup following an 11-0 victory over Wickham Royals Reserves this Sunday at Beaulieu Park. Goals came from John Lew (5), Steve Lew (3), Sam Gilbert (2) and Neil Eagleton.

4th November 2007

FC Amarillo returned back to form with a 5-2 away win against a Woodham Athletic side that had earlier in the season seen off Coyles FC, demonstrating the closeness of this league. Goals came in the shape of a hattrick for Sam Gilbert and a double from sub Tom Clarke.

20th October 2007

A poor FC Amarillo turned up to take on Woodham-based rivals Coyles FC at Melbourne Park resulting in a 6-1 loss. The team needs to buck up its ideas or this season will amount to nothing.

13th October 2007

An understrength, bare, inebriated eleven took on a young, fit Maiden side from Harlow in the Junior County Cup and despite a close game failed to convert chances running out 2-0 losers. Much improvement and commitment needed!

6th October 2007
